Getting started
What is Parkonaut?
Parkonaut is your theme park tracker. The app notices when you visit a park, suggests the attractions you rode and keeps your visits, rides and ratings in one place. On the website you find parks and attractions with opening hours and ride details.
Does Parkonaut cost anything?
No. Parkonaut is free, without a subscription and without paid features.
Which devices does Parkonaut run on?
The app is made for iPhone, Android follows. The website works in every browser: there you browse parks, add past visits and manage your account.
Do I need an account?
Not for browsing. The app also detects visits without an account and keeps them on your device. With an account your visits, rides and ratings are saved on all your devices, and your thumbs count for the community. You sign in with Apple or Google, accounts are available from age 18 and we only store your first name.
Visits and location
How does Parkonaut notice that I am in a park?
Your phone wakes the app when you get close to a park. A short location check confirms that you are inside, and the visit starts. Where you stayed a while, the app suggests the attraction there. A ride only counts once you tap it.
Does the app track me all the time? What about the battery?
No. The app never tracks you continuously, not even in the park. It only checks your location briefly when the system wakes it, for example when you reach a park or move on. That saves battery.
Which permissions does the app need and why?
Location with “Allow all the time”, so the app notices a park visit even while it is closed. On Android it also asks for “Physical activity” to tell when you are on the move. You can withdraw permissions in the system settings at any time and turn off detection in the app.
What leaves my phone?
Your positions never leave your phone. Only when you are signed in does the app send confirmed visits (park, day, start and end), rides and ratings to your account. Details are in the privacy policy.
A visit was not detected or happened before I had the app. What now?
Add it afterwards: choose the park and the day, then count your rides. This works in the app and on the website in My area.
Does the app work without internet?
Mostly, yes. Parks you have opened are saved on your device, and park data updates once a day. Visits and rides you record offline are sent as soon as you are online again.
Credits and collection
What is a credit?
A credit is a roller coaster you have ridden at least once. Each coaster counts once, however often you ride it. Coaster fans have counted their rides like this for decades, so Parkonaut uses the same word.
Why do only coasters count, and only the first ride?
That is how credits work among coaster fans: what counts is how many different coasters you have ridden. All other rides still count as rides, on your day ticket and in your statistics.
What can I do with credits?
Credits are not a currency, you cannot spend or redeem them. They show your progress: round milestones (10, 25, 50, 100 and more), how many coasters of a park you have ridden and your new credits per visit and per year.
What are park stamps?
You get a stamp for every park you visit. Your park stamps are in your collection.
What is the day ticket?
Every visit becomes a day ticket: park, day and duration, your rides and attractions, the favourite of the day and the new credits as stamps. You can share it as text.
Ratings
How do I rate an attraction or a park?
With a thumb up or down. Your latest rating is your current verdict, you can change it or take it back at any time.
When does the community rating appear?
As soon as an attraction or park has at least five thumbs, before that a percentage would say little. Only thumbs from accounts count.
Park data
Where does the park data come from?
From open sources: OpenStreetMap for park areas, entrances and attractions, plus Overture Maps, Wikidata, Coasterpedia and Wikipedia for details. Everything is listed with licences under data sources.
Is AI involved?
Yes, for research. An AI agent reads Wikipedia and park websites and suggests details such as opening hours or descriptions. Clear findings with a reliable source are applied automatically, everything else is checked by our moderation. How our bot behaves is explained on the bot page.
Something is wrong. How can I fix it?
On the park page, choose “Improve the data” and suggest the correction. Our moderators check every change, and you can follow the status in My area under “My reports”.
How reliable are the opening hours?
We collect them from park websites and the community and show them in the park's time zone. If no hours are known, the park is not necessarily closed. The information on site is authoritative, so check the park's website before you go.
Does Parkonaut show wait times?
No, not at the moment. Parkonaut focuses on your visits, rides and ratings.
Does Parkonaut belong to the parks?
No. Parkonaut is independent and not affiliated with any park. Park names and brands belong to their owners.
Your data
How do I get a copy of my data?
In My area under “Your data” you download everything as a file, in the app and on the website.
How do I delete my account?
In My area, in the app or on the website. We delete your visits, rides, ratings and profile. Accepted corrections stay in the catalogue without any link to you. Details are in the privacy policy.
